Step by step instructions
- Place skillet on the stovetop on medium heat. Add sausage to the pan and start to brown and crumble the sausage.
- One it starts to brown some, sprinkle your gluten free flour over the sausage and add your spices.
- Keep cooking until the sausage is almost cooked through. Add milk (I used coconut milk to make it dairy free and it was perfect).
- At first it will appear to be water downed. Continue to stir, get those yummy bits and pieces off the bottom of the pan. The gluten free flour will start to do its magic and it will thicken the sauce.
- Make sure to let the gravy simmer for a few minutes. You will know it is finished when your gravy has thickened and has become a nice cream sauce. It will stay on your spoon and not slide off.
- That is it folks! Simple and pure Gluten Free Sausage Gravy heaven! Go enjoy. 🙂
Tips for success
- DAIRY FREE OPTION: You can substitute milk for coconut milk or almond milk.
- Don’t have any cassava flour? You can substitute for corn starch. Just use 2 tablespoons instead.
- If you prefer a mild sausage gravy you can omit the hot pepper flakes. If you like a truly spicy gluten free sausage gravy than you add a little more. I am a middle of the road kind of gal.
- I prefer a smokey flavor. If that is not your thing you can also omit the smoked paprika. I like the kick and the smoke it brings to the sausage.
- I used pork sausage in this dish. It did not render a lot of fat. IF the sausage you are using has a lot of grease drippings you might want to drain off some of the excess fat so your gravy is not “greasy”.
- You should definitely pair this dish with my homemade gluten free biscuits. They are so simple and whip up in under 20 minutes, start to finish! The biscuits can also be made dairy free. So scrumptious and no one will know they are gluten free! My gang went nuts and request these almost every weekend.
How to store and reheat leftovers

MICROWAVE: Place sausage gravy on a microwave safe plate. Reheat for 60-90 seconds or until nice and warmed through.
STOVE TOP OPTIONS (preferred method): Place sausage gravy in a skillet on medium heat. Heat for about 5 minutes or until nice and warm.
